Cage

A cage can be (1) A secure enclosed area for storing highly valuable items, or (2) A pallet-sized platform with sides that can be secured to the tines of a forklift and in which a person may ride to inventory items stored well above the warehouse floor.

  1. A cage in logistics can refer to a secure enclosed area for storing highly valuable items. Such cages are typically used in airports, seaports and other transportation hubs to protect shipments from theft or tampering. Cages may also be used to physically separate different types of cargo, such as hazardous materials from general cargo.

In some cases, a cage can also refer to the entire container in which goods are transported. This usage is more common in Europe than in North America. In this context, the word “cage” is often used interchangeably with the word “container”.
  1. A cage can also be a pallet-sized platform with sides that can be secured to the tines of a forklift and in which a person may ride to inventory items stored well above the warehouse floor. These cages are often used in the automotive industry to store parts on high shelves.
