CARAT

CARAT stands for Cargo Agents Reservation Air Waybill Issuance and Tracking. It was a computer system that helps manage cargo movements for airlines and freight forwarders. CARAT was developed in the early 1990s to help air cargo carriers improve efficiency and better serve their customers.

CARAT was used by more than 1,000 airlines and freight forwarders around the world. It helped them optimize their cargo operations by automating the process of issuing air waybills and tracking cargo shipments. CARAT also allowed users to create shipment reports and invoices.

CARAT’s benefits included:

* Reduced paperwork – With CARAT, you could create air waybills electronically, which eliminates the need for paper documents. This speeds up the process and makes it easier to track shipments.

* Improved communication – CARAT enabled users to share shipment information electronically, which helps them communicate more effectively and efficiently.

* Greater efficiency – CARAT’s automated processes helped users streamline their cargo operations, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced costs.

CARAT was abandoned in 1999 in favor of newer technologies, but it remains an important part of air cargo history. Thanks to CARAT, the air cargo industry became more efficient and better able to serve its customers.
