Container Yard to Container Yard (CY/CY)
Container Yard to Container Yard (CY/CY) is a type of steamship-line service in which freight is transported from origin container yard to destination container yard.
The advantages of CY/CY are:
- It eliminates the need to reload freight from one truck or rail car to another at intermediate points.
- It can provide a higher level of service since terminals are not as busy as they would be if each shipment had to be handled through the public areas.
- CY/CY is often used for expedited freight, which is defined as freight that needs to reach its destination within a certain time frame.
There are a few things to keep in mind when using CY/CY:
- The origin and destination container yards must be served by the same steamship line.
- The freight must be compatible with the terminal’s equipment.
- The freight must meet the weight and size limitations of the terminal.
The disadvantages of CY/CY are:
- It can be more expensive than other methods of transportation.
- There is a limited number of CY/CY service providers.
