Load Tendering
In logistics, load tendering is the practice of providing a carrier with detailed information and negotiated pricing (the tender) prior to scheduling pickup. This practice can help assure contract compliance and facilitate automated payments (self-billing).
Load tendering can be used for both full truckload (FTL) and less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments. When load tendering FTL shipments, carriers are typically provided with:
- the origin and destination zip codes,
- shipper name and address,
- commodity description,
- total weight,
- projected pick-up and delivery dates.
For LTL shipments, in addition to the above information, carriers are also typically provided with the number of pieces, dimensions of each piece, and any special handling instructions.
Load tendering is a common practice in the logistics industry and can be used to streamline operations and improve efficiency. When done correctly, load tendering can save time and money for both shippers and carriers.
