Receiving
Receiving is the function encompassing the physical receipt of material, the inspection of the shipment for conformance with the purchase order (quantity and damage), the identification and delivery to destination, and the preparation of receiving reports.
Receiving also involves coordinating with other departments within the company to ensure that all materials are accounted for and delivered to their proper destinations in a timely manner. An efficient receiving department is critical to maintaining smooth operations within a company.
Receiving is a critical part of the logistics process, as it ensures that all materials needed for production or other purposes are accounted for and delivered to their proper destinations in a timely and efficient manner.
In order to be effective, receiving departments must coordinate closely with other departments within the company, such as purchasing, accounting, and shipping.
